The Illinois Department of Public Health has confirmed one case of measles in suburban Cook County.  Measles is a serious, highly contagious disease caused by a virus. The virus is spread easily through the air when an infected person coughs or sneezes or by direct contact with infected nose or throat secretions.
Potential exposures in Illinois may have occurred to:
  • Patients and visitors at the Northwest Community Hospital emergency room (800 West Central Road, Arlington Heights) on January 14th from 7 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., and January 17th from 4 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
  • Customers at the Supermercado Guzman (1611 North Baldwin Road, Palatine) on January 12th and 13th between 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Patients and visitors at the Vista Clinic (1585 North Rand Road, Palatine) on January 16th between 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.
A person who was potentially exposed and is experiencing symptoms a fever of 101 F or higher, cough, runny nose and red eyes with or without rash, should call the Cook County Department of Public Health at 847-818-4020 as well as their healthcare provider. These individuals should not go to their doctor’s office or the emergency room as they could infect others around them.

 Snow Ordinance Questions and Answers

Q: Can a resident or business put snow on a public sidewalk, street or across the street?

A: No. This includes the portion of the sidewalk that crosses over a driveway apron. Village ordinances prohibit the plowing, blowing or shoveling of snow into the street, onto the public sidewalk, or onto a parkway across from your property. This action can create a hazardous condition for both motorists and pedestrians.

Q: If a resident/business hires a snow plow contractor, who is responsible for notifying that contractor of the Village ordinances?

A: The property owner is responsible for the actions of their contractor. Non-owners of property should forward this information to the party responsible for conducting the snow plowing and snow removal operations.

Q: Can I park on the street regardless of how much it snows?

A: No. It is unlawful for any person, firm or corporation to park any vehicle on any public street within the corporate limits of the Village at any time within a 24-hour period after an accumulation of 2 inches or more of snow.

If you would like additional information, or want to see the penalties for violating any of the above ordinances, please view our Code of Ordinances by clicking here.
