All dispatching for the Palatine Fire Department is performed by Northwest Central Dispatch System (NWCDS)
. NWCD is a consolidated, multi-jurisdictional emergency communication system which presently performs 911 fire and EMS dispatch for Arlington Heights, Buffalo Grove, Elk Grove Village, Hoffman Estates, Mount Prospect, Palatine Rural, Rolling Meadows, Schaumburg, Streamwood and, of course, Palatine. Using Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD), NWCDS annually dispatches the Palatine Fire Department on over 7,200 emergency requests for Fire/EMS assistance. Dialing 911 in Palatine will get the caller either Police, Fire or Paramedic assistance.
Before the existence of NWCDS, each community handled emergency dispatch themselves. Through the years, enhanced technology and ever increasing call volumes pushed dispatching costs up and challenged the resources of each municipality. By establishing NWCDS, the communities found a way of sharing and controlling costs, improving technology and improving communication on each others borders. This led to Mutual Response Agreements and improved services in all communities.
