The Palatine Police Crime Prevention Unit provides safety presentations to elementary and junior high schools known as the Officer Friendly program. Each year the subject discussed during our visit changes and is scheduled upon the school’s request. The subject topics offered are as follows:

  1. Kids On Their Own – teaches children how to stay safe going from one place to another, and how to stay safe while being home without a parent.
  2. Bullies & School Violence – addresses what students can do to prevent & eliminate the problems caused by bullying, and how devastating the effects of bullying can be.
  3. Operation Lifesaver - this newly offered program is designed to teach students about the dangers of rail roads and rail road crossings.
  4. Cyber safety – teaches students about the dangers of internet use and how to “surf” safely. This new presentation is geared towards students in grades 5-8, but can also be presented to high school students when requested.
  5. Bicycle safety – covers the various aspects of safe riding which includes the rules of the road, bicycle equipment, and what clothing to wear.
