Greetings from Police Beat 8110. My name is Tim Sharkey, the Beat Sergeant of 8110. I was hired by the Palatine Police Department in 1996 and have been assigned as the team leader in 8110 as of January 2015
. My career has been spent as a Patrol Officer and as a Tactical Officer in the investigations Unit. I am currently assigned as an afternoon Watch Supervisor, my shift begins at 1:30PM and ends at 9:30PM.
Your police beat 8110 is located in the downtown area of Palatine. It is roughly bordered by Palatine Road to the South and Route 14 to the North and East. It stretches West to the village limits and covers portions of council districts 1, 2 and 6
Officers assigned to the 8110 beat utilize an All-Terrain Vehicle downtown in an effort to be more visible in the business district. This affords the officer the ability to meet with local business owners and patrons while providing a more personalized police service. This vehicle can be driven off-road and used to patrol areas that cannot be reached by a traditional police car.
In addition to regular patrol responsibilities and traffic enforcement, beat officers have focused much of their efforts on pedestrian safety around the train station. Now that parking and accessibility have improved with the
new station, Palatine is becoming a much busier destination to take the Metra Train to and from the City of Chicago. With the increase in riders we feel the need to educate the public on train safety and often physically monitor the pedestrian foot traffic near the tracks. This also allows officers to greet residents and visitors and let them know we are always available if needed.
It takes an entire community to keep our Village peaceful and safe and I encourage those involved in any aspect of beat 8110 to join me in attending neighborhood meetings with Councilman Brad Helms. If you have questions or need to contact me you may do so by using the email link under the beat map or calling me at 847-359-9000.
