Whether you travel on business or with your family for vacation, safety should always play an important part in your trip. Here are some important safety tips to keep in mind next time you travel.
At the airport:
Keep an eye on your luggage and other personal items at all times. Do not let anyone other than airline personnel handle your things. Be cautious of staged commotions that may be intended to distract travelers. Stay alert to your surroundings at all times. Be sure to keep all valuables with you in your carry-on luggage. Do not pack valuable items in a suitcase that you check in with the airlines.
Plan your travel route ahead of time. Pay special attention to areas for stopping to refuel, dine, or find lodging. Make sure your vehicle is in good operating condition. In case of a breakdown, open the vehicle hood and turn on the flashers. If possible, keep a cellular telephone with you in case of a problem. Conceal any rental car information from public view. Choose rental agencies that do not display their companies on the vehicle or license plate.
At the hotel:
Do not leave valuables in your room unattended. Lock them up in the hotel safe -deposit box if provided. Keep all cash, credit cards and important papers with you. Never open the door to your room without verifying who is there. Be especially cautious during the night time hours. Call the hotel desk when an employee claims to need entry. Be observant to your surroundings. Report anything suspicious to hotel management.
