Sewer Rehabilitation - Slip Lining Program

The Sewer Rehabilitation Program - CIPP takes place during the summer.  Neighborhoods that are affected by this program will receive a letter informing them when the project will take place in their area.  The Village has contracted with Hoerr Construction, Incorporated of Peoria, Illinois to perform the repairs this year.

How it Works

CIPP stands for "cured in place pipe" and consists of a lining process that reconstructs the sewer line without time-consuming, expensive, and disruptive excavation.  Instead of digging up and replacing the deteriorated pipelines, the process provides for the insertion of a special lining inside the old pipe, creating a new, watertight, smooth-surfaced, long-lasting pipe within the existing sewer.

Before the actual lining process begins, the contractor will have one of their crews clean, root cut, and remove any debris or obstructions in the main sewer lines that need repairs.  Normally each section of sewer to be rehabilitated will require 8 to 12 hours to complete and up to 24 hours if complications occur.  During this time, the sewer connections from houses and businesses will be temporarily sealed off.  Consequently, you are asked to make limited use of toilet and shower facilities and refrain from running clothes or dish washers.

How Do Residents Know if They are Affected by the Project?

A notice from the contractor will be sent to the residents where this project is being done, informing them of the time and date work will be preformed and the limited water use period.  It is recommended that several cups of water are poured in each floor drain in your basement to keep the drain trap full.  This is a precaution to prevent sewer odors from entering your home.  If the sewers are in the backyard easements, the contractor's personnel will be accessing the sewers by using side yards.  If the sewers are in the parkways, the contractor will confine his work to the parkway area.
