Street Signs

Home > Public Works > Street Division > Street Signs

Street signs are vital directional guideposts.  Unfortunately, they are also favorite targets of vandals and pranksters.  If you notice a missing or vandalized street sign, please call the Department of Public Works at (847) 705-5200 to report its location.  Missing STOP signs are considered an emergency and are replaced immediately.  Please call us as soon as possible to report a missing STOP sign.

To Add or Not To Add Signs

Residents occasionally call to request that a STOP sign, YIELD sign, or other traffic signs be added in a particular location.  In order to have a request for additional traffic signage or a change in signage considered, a written request must be submitted to the Traffic Engineering Committee.  The written request may be either a letter or an e-mail and sent to the Department of Public Works, attention George Ruppert.  The request must state the type of sign that is desired, the potential location, and the reason why the resident feels it is necessary.  Each request for additional signage is studied and evaluated on the basis of need and effectiveness.  The Committee's recommendation is then forwarded to the Village Council for final approval or denial.
