Summer Engineering Intern
The Village of Palatine has a temporary position available in the Public Works Engineering Department, for Summer 2010. The preferred candidate is currently enrolled in college, and is pursuing Engineering as a field of study. Position requires a valid driver’s license and the ability to drive to work sites. Duties include construction inspection, assist in basic surveying, pavement condition surveys for the MICROPAVER pavement management system. Knowledge of CADD and Microsoft Office familiarity is a plus. Starting Salary is $12.00 per hour. 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday.

Summer Help - Public Works
The Village of Palatine has temporary positions available in various divisions in the Department of Public Works for full-time general labor during the summer months. Work hours are 6:30 a.m.– 3:00 p.m., Monday–Friday. Starting Salary is $8.25 per hour. Requires a valid driver’s license, must be age 18 or older and be able to perform the essential job functions for the division including, but not limited to: Frequent lifting, carrying (25lbs), standing and bending. School Crossing Guards
The Village of Palatine Police Department is seeking School Crossing Guards for the 2010 school year. Applicants must be dependable and willing to work up to four hours a day. This position pays $11.64 per hour. A School Crossing Guard is a designated adult civilian who supervises and expedites the crossing of school children at hazardous or congested traffic points.
Basic responsibilities include the following:
· Supervise the safe crossing of school children at crossing points which are established by the Police Department
· Encourage safety consciousness in pedestrians and motorists by demonstrating safety practices
· Deter children from committing unlawful or unsafe acts at such crossings
· Informing motorists, through appropriate signals, that pedestrians are using or about to use the crossing, and have the right of way
· Observe and report conditions or incidents that are detrimental to safety, including violations of traffic laws or regulations
