259 Jennifer Lane - Condominium Fire

On Monday, March 11, 2013, at 12:32 A.M., the Palatine Fire Department responded to a second floor condominium fire at 259 Jennifer Lane, Palatine. The fire was reported by a 2nd floor resident after finding a fire in his bedroom closet. The fire alarm was activated and alerted residents who safely evacuated the building before the fire department arrived. First arriving fire crews arrived within 4 minutes and were faced with fire coming out of 2nd floor rear windows and extending to the roof. The fire was extinguished and under control within 20 minutes. The fire was contained to a second floor condo unit, but all 6 units at the address sustained considerable smoke and water damage and deemed uninhabitable. There were no injuries reported, but a pet cat was found to have succumbed to smoke.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Palatine Fire Department. Damage is estimated at $200,000.
The Palatine Fire Department reminds all residents to have working smoke detectors in their homes and change the batteries twice a year.
