Harper College – 1200 W. Algonquin Drowning

On Thursday, March 24 at 12:07 p.m., the Palatine Fire Department responded to a report of a car submerged in the water at a Harper College lake. The first unit arrived on the scene less than 5 minutes 30 seconds later and reported a car submerged in the lake off of the Euclid Avenue entrance. The Palatine Fire Department dive team entered the water and removed 1 female victim from the car at 12:26 pm. She was transported by the Rolling Meadows and Palatine Rural Fire Protection District paramedics to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights.
Divers from Palatine, Arlington Heights, Elk Grove Village, Hoffman Estates, Mount Prospect and Schaumburg fire departments responded under a mutual aid agreement. A total of 13 divers responded along with 22 firefighters, 3 command staff members manning 3 engines, 1 ladder truck, 1 rescue squad, 1 decon unit, 5 ambulances and a command vehicle. Additional assistance was received from the Palatine and Harper College police departments. Divers remained in the water for an additional 1 ½ hours and continued to search the lake for additional victims. No other victims were found. Divers then assisted the police departments with the accident investigation and the removal of the vehicle.
