“Click it or Ticket” “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over”

December 18, 2013

The Palatine Police Department is dedicated to keeping our roadways safe through proactive traffic enforcement measures.  With the assistance of grant funding provided by the Illinois Department of Transportation, we will be participating in the Christmas/New Years Holiday Traffic Safety Campaign.  From Dec. 20, 2013 to Jan. 5, 2014, the Police Department will be saturating the roadways with extra officers looking for impaired driving and occupant protection violations.  These are found to be the greatest contributing factors in serious injury and fatal motor vehicle crashes.

In addition, this I.D.O.T. grant funding will allow the Palatine Police Department to conduct a Roadside Safety Check from the late evening hours on December 20th through the early morning hours on December 21st in the area of Algonquin and Roselle Roads.  This is among Palatine’s highest traffic crash locations. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the midnight to 3:00 am timeframe is the deadliest time on Illinois roads.  This timeframe also has the lowest occupant restraint use involving motor vehicle fatalities.

Should you be a witness to erratic or impaired driving, please call 9-1-1.  Let’s all work together to make our roadways safe this holiday season!
