The Palatine Police Department is dedicated to making our roadways the safest they can be. To strengthen that effort, the Palatine Police Department partnered with the Illinois Department of Transportation in their St. Patrick’s Day Holiday Traffic Safety Crackdown. Through a traffic safety grant, I.D.O.T. supplied funds to increase the number of uniformed Palatine Police officers on the roadways enforcing traffic laws over the St. Patrick’s Day Holiday (March 13th - 17th). The focus of this campaign was to get intoxicated motorists off the roads and make sure vehicle occupants are kept safe through the enforcement of seat belt use.
Through the holiday, Palatine Police uniformed officers hit the streets on dedicated traffic enforcement saturation patrols. These saturation patrols emphasized the hours of midnight to 3:00 am which have proven to be the deadliest on Illinois roadways. Additionally, a roadside safety check was set up in an effort to make sure motorists were driving responsibly.
The following is a summary of the results for the St. Patrick’s Day Holiday Traffic Safety Crackdown in the Village of Palatine funded by I.D.O.T:
Driving Under the Influence Arrests – 2
Seatbelt Violations – 28
Speeding Violations – 7
