Brush Collection
Brush collection is done by two different agencies at different times during the year.
During the Winter Months
The Public Works Department conducts a curbside brush pickup only once during the winter season beginning the first Monday in February. Next year's collection is scheduled to begin on Monday, February 5, 2024.
Loose brush should be set out at the curb by 7 a.m. on the first Monday in the month of February. Crews will make only one pass down each street. If the amounts of brush are excessive, the collection may take all week to finish. Please be patient; if we do not pick up your brush on Monday, we will get there sometime during that week.
Guidelines
- Brush must be eight inches or less in diameter to accommodate the chipper.
- Firewood, tree stumps and root balls are not accepted because of the potential damage to the chipper.
- Branches should be as long as possible with cut ends facing the street, without impeding traffic or the sidewalk.
- Brush should be loose and not bundled.
- Christmas trees are accepted, but must be cleaned of any lights, ornaments, or other decorations.
The collection may also be delayed due to snow or other weather conditions. The Village will post an announcement if the collection needs to be rescheduled.
If you have any questions regarding the winter pickup, please call Public Works at (847) 705-5200.
During the Summer Months
From April through December, Groot Recycling and Waste Services trucks will pick up your bundled brush on the same day as your refuse collection. Brush needs to be bundled in lengths not longer than four feet nor weighing more than 60 pounds. Bundles must be tied with biodegradable cotton twine or rope. For more information about yard waste pickup, click here or call the Environmental Health Division at (847) 359-9042.
Storm Collection of Brush
Public Works does not pick up brush after every storm. After severe storms, the Village makes a determination as to the need for a special pickup of brush. If the need is great enough, the Forestry Division will collect fallen tree limbs. Crews will only make one pass down each street. Call the Department of Public Works at (847) 705-5200 to find out whether or not a special brush collection will be conducted.
