The Palatine Emergency Management Agency (PEMA) under its current structure emphasizes the need for a coordinated effort involving local, state, and federal agencies as well as volunteer organizations and private businesses in the community, working together toward a common goal. The goal is to make Palatine as prepared as possible to respond to the effects of a natural, man-made or technological emergency or disaster. Palatine is one of the few jurisdictions in the Chicago area to have a full-time Emergency Management Coordinator to better coordinate this important function.
Emergency Operations Plan
It should be noted that PEMA has a comprehensive Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) in place that assigns responsibilities to each of the various departments within the Village and outlines mutual aid agreements with various state and local agencies. In the event of an emergency or disaster, Palatine EMA is prepared to coordinate evacuations, provide shelter and communicate timely, accurate information to its residents.
Whether a tornado, toxic spill or terrorist attack, PEMA has resources in place to help mitigate and respond to these type of emergencies or disasters.
