I did not know about the rental licensing ordinance and already have a tenant living in my unit. Am I in trouble?: Since you are now aware of the rental licensing requirement, it is important that you start the licensing process as soon as possible to become compliant with Village ordinance. As long as you complete the process and obtain your license no penalties would be assessed.

1. Can I pay over the phone or online?: The Village of Palatine does not accept payment by phone or online. If paying by check, please remit to:

If paying by cash or credit card, you may do so in person at the Village Hall. After hours payments can be dropped off at the front entrance of Village Hall or in the drive-up drop box located adjacent to the Village Hall building near the Park District tennis courts.

2. I'm thinking about renting out my home/condo/townhome. When should I apply for the license?: When you list the property for rent you should apply. The initial licensing process can take up to 6 weeks to complete

3. Can I fax or email my application?: We do not accept faxed or emailed new applications. Payment must accompany the application. Applications received by fax or email with no accompanying payment are destroyed

5. How long will my rental license be valid?: Licenses are valid for one year from date of application. Each year your license will expire on the same day and month.

6. Can I schedule a rental inspection for the weekend?: Rental inspections are conducted Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Our offices are closed on the weekend.

7. I am the owner of the property but I cannot be present for the inspection. Can I send someone else in my place?: Only the owner or an agent designated on the rental dwelling license application form may meet with our Inspector at the inspection appointment. If you wish to designate an agent to represent you, you must complete, sign and submit a new application form. Your agent must complete and sign the same form. Rental License Application (PDF)

8. I am the rental owner and cannot be present for the inspection or Crime Free Multi-Housing seminar, can I send someone else in my place?: You may designate an agent to represent you by filling out and submitting a new rental license application form. Both the owner and agent must sign the same form. The application is available on our website. Rental License Application (PDF)

9. I have completed the inspection and Crime Free Multi-Housing requirements, why have I not received my license?: In order to have a license mailed to you, you must fill out and submit a Printed License Required form. You will then receive a license each year.
