In January 2009, a German Shepherd named "Elvis" became the Palatine Police Department’s second patrol canine after K-9 Crow was recently retired. Elvis was born June 3, 2007 in Appling, Georgia and was partnered with Officer Jamie Ashe after both completed an eight week long Basic K-9 Training Program in Amelia County, Virginia. Elvis and Officer Ashe are certified through the North American Police Work Dog Association (NAPWDA) in narcotics detection, building/area searches, criminal apprehension, handler protection and tracking of suspects and lost persons. To date Elvis has assisted in locating 9 kilograms of cocaine hidden in vehicles that led to felony drug charges on multiple offenders. Elvis lives at home with Officer Ashe and his family.
