Wood Mulch Deliveries

Free Wood Mulch for Homeowner Landscaping

Palatine residMature Mulchents have come to enjoy the double-ground wood mulch the Village has provided over the years. This green initiative allows the Village to recycle wood from trees removed throughout the year. The Village uses the mulch for their landscaping beds and the mulch is also made available to residents.

A layer of mulch can enhance and protect plants, shrubs, and trees by reducing root damage caused by temperature extremes. Mulch can also inhibit weeds, retain soil moisture, control soil erosion, prevent soil compaction, and help prevent soil splashing onto buildings.

Delivery Appointments

Scheduling delivery appointments begins around March 1 each year. Appointments are available on a first come, first served basis and only one delivery is allowed per household. Deliveries are made on Fridays in April and May to residents’ driveway aprons. The delivery cost is $51 per 3 cubic yard load for orders of 3, 6, or 9 cubic yards. One cubic yard covers approximately a 10 foot by 10 foot area with a 3 inch thick layer of mulch.

New Online Ordering for 2026

For 2026, the Village is transitioning to a new online ordering system for improved convenience in scheduling an appointment and streamlining the payment process. The link to access the online ordering system will be available on this webpage on Monday, March 2, at 8:00 a.m. Scheduling will be available online only.

Deliveries will take place on April 10, April 17, April 24, May 1, and May 8. The delivery fee will be billed to the Utility Services account associated with the address entered in the ordering system, so prepayment will no longer be required. The delivery fee will be on the utility bill within two billing cycles after scheduling an appointment online. This method allows for payments to be made by E-Check, credit card, cash, and check. Please note that credit card payments will be assessed additional processing fees whether they are made in-person at Village Hall or online.

Free Pickup Option

For smaller amounts of mulch, residents may visit the mulch bins at the holding center located at 550 North Smith Street near the elevated Smith Tank water tower south of Northwest Highway. Please bring your own shovel and containers. There is no charge to pick up your own mulch.

Mulch delivery and mulch pickup are only available to single-family residences within Village limits. Any other properties that do not participate in residential yard waste service (such as townhome or condominium communities, commercial properties, institutions, etc.) are not eligible for these programs.
